Nell Plants a Tree

A young girl named Nell plants a pecan tree seed, tenderly caring for it as it grows while she also advances in age, becoming a grandmother. The text alternates between her experiences as a young girl, and her delight in watching her grandchildren play in and around this special tree.
The book ends with Nell showing her granddaughter how to plant her own seed that may one day contribute to the memories and experiences of future generations.
The illustrations are gorgeous pen-and-ink, gouache and collage, that connect the images of past and present, and depict the love and wonder among this intergenerational family.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier, Vermont. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
The Friends of the Moretown Memorial Library is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage community engagement, promote volunteer opportunities and raise financial resources to support and enhance the library’s programs and services for all.
Some of our recent activities include:
- Working with the Library Director to purchase several new stories for the Storywalk™
- Providing crafts and food at Morefest
- Overseeing a student volunteer project
- Installing the latest Storywalk™ story
- Landscaping at the old library building
- Maintaining the Little Free Library at the Moretown General Store
- Applying for grants
- Working with the Library Trustees on their Strategic Bridge Plan
- Discussing ways we can help support the upcoming improvements to the Town Hall building
